A series of tragic road accidents spanning three districts across the country left at least ten people dead within a brief three-hour window today, Saturday. The fatal incidents occurred between 9:30 AM and 11:30 AM in Kushtia, Jashore, and Dinajpur, further leaving at least 24 others, including women and children, seriously injured. Given the critical condition of several hospitalized victims, medical authorities fear the death toll may rise.

Four dead as passenger bus plunges into pond in Kushtia

In Kushtia’s Khoksa upazila, a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a commercial drum truck resulted in four fatalities and left 20 others severely injured. The accident took place at around 11:30 AM on the Kushtia-Rajbari highway, right in front of the Shimulia Dakshin Kuthipara Mosque. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kushtia Highway Thana, Abu Obaida, confirmed the incident, noting that the identities of the deceased are yet to be formally established.

According to police and eyewitness accounts, a Kushtia-bound drum truck originating from Pangsha collided violently with a passenger bus travelling from Rajbari. The impact caused the bus to overturn and plunge into an adjacent pond. Local residents immediately launched rescue operations, pulling victims from the wreckage and shifting them to the Khoksa Upazila Health Complex and the Kushtia 250-Bed General Hospital. Attending physicians stated that 10 to 15 of the injured remain in extremely critical condition.

Three killed in a three-way collision in Jashore

Another fatal accident occurred around 11:30 AM along the Jashore-Khulna highway in front of the Chaulia fuel station, claiming three lives and injuring two others. The three-way collision involved a speeding covered van, an easy-bike, and a rickshaw. OC of Nawapara Highway Thana, Fazlul Karim, verified the details of the tragedy.

The deceased have been identified as easy-bike driver Mohammad Ayub Ali (43) from Ghuni Purvapara, Bristi Saha (24) from Ghoragachha Sahapara, and Anwar Ali (70) from Chaulia village. Local sources reported that the Khulna-bound covered van rammed into the oncoming easy-bike and rickshaw simultaneously. Ayub and Bristi died on the spot, while the elderly Anwar Ali succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at the Jashore General Hospital surgery ward. Bristi’s four-year-old son, Shouvik Saha, and another passenger, Sajjad Hossain (28), remain hospitalized in critical condition. Following the crash, an incensed mob blockaded the highway for nearly half an hour before law enforcement personnel managed to restore order.

Three teenage motorcyclists crushed by truck in Dinajpur

Earlier in the morning at around 9:30 AM, a tragic accident in Dinajpur’s Ghoraghat upazila claimed the lives of three young motorcyclists as they attempted to cross the highway from a regional connecting road. The incident took place in the Raniganj Bazar area along the Dinajpur-Gobindaganj highway.

The victims were identified as Alamin (15) from Nurpur, Saikat (16) from Moglishpur, and Kaiyum (20) from Afsarabad. Ghoraghat Thana OC Shahidul Islam confirmed the details, explaining that the three youths were on a single motorcycle when they emerged onto the main highway near the Raniganj Bazar Grand Mosque. After initially colliding with one truck, they were thrown onto the tarmac and subsequently run over by another oncoming Dinajpur-bound cargo truck. Alamin died instantly at the scene, while Saikat and Kaiyum were pronounced dead upon arrival at the Ghoraghat Upazila Health Complex.

OC Shahidul Islam told reporters that since the families raised no objections, the bodies are being handed over to their relatives without autopsies, though legal proceedings under the Road Transport Act are currently underway.
