The admission tests for medical and dental colleges may be held in the first week of December for the 2026-27 academic year. The Directorate General of Health Education (DGME) is expected to finalise the date by next week after discussions with the Ministry of Health, according to sources at the ministry and the directorate.

Professor Dr Saki Md Zakiul Alam, director (medical education) of the Directorate General of Health Education, told The Daily Campus on Wednesday (September 2) that a tentative date has been set. “We have determined a tentative date. If the ministry approves it, the final date will be known within the next couple of days,” he said.

Earlier in August, Professor Dr Rubina Yasmin, additional director general (medical education) of the Directorate General of Health Education, told The Daily Campus that medical admission tests are generally held in December. The examination was also held in December over the past two years, she said, adding that the test would be held in December this year as well.

A Health Ministry source told The Daily Campus that preparations are proceeding with a plan to hold the tests in the first week of December. December 4, the first Friday of the month, is being considered as a possible date.

However, the date is still under discussion. If the ministry approves December 4, the medical and dental admission tests will be held on that day. If the date is not finalised for December 4, the tests may instead be held on a Friday during the admission-test schedule of the University of Dhaka.

Medical and dental admission tests traditionally mark the beginning of the nationwide admission season for higher education institutions. For the 2026-27 academic year, the University of Dhaka has been the first institution to announce its admission-test schedule.

The University of Dhaka’s admission tests will begin on December 5 and continue until December 26. Except for Tuesday, December 22, the tests will be held on Saturdays. The schedule includes the IBA test on December 5, Science unit on December 12, Arts, Law and Social Sciences unit on December 19, Fine Arts on December 22 and Business Studies unit on December 26.
