Prime Minister Plans to Gift ‘Pink Cycles’ to Secondary School Girls

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman plans to gift ‘Pinky bicycles’ to female students at secondary schools across Bangladesh to encourage them to continue their education, Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon said on Tuesday.

Milon made the remarks as the chief guest at a discussion marking Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) Day on Tuesday (September 1).

“There are around 19,000 secondary schools in the country. To encourage girls in every class to pursue education further, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will talk about a gift for them today. It is the Pinky bicycle. The purpose of giving these bicycles is to motivate them towards education,” the minister said.

At the same event, Milon said the prime minister would honour students who secured GPA-5 in this year’s SSC and equivalent examinations.

He also said discussions had taken place on gifting tablets to 116,000 newly passed students to encourage them to continue their studies.

Milon said the prime minister gives the highest priority to education. He said the government has allocated 2 percent of GDP to education in the current budget and plans to raise it to up to 5 percent.

“This kind of investment in education has not been made by previous governments,” he said.
