Tk 5 Crore Allocated for Scout Students Who Achieve GPA-5: Education Minister

5 crore taka allocation will be provided from the education budget for talented scout students who achieve GPA-5 in the SSC and HSC examinations, Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon said.

He made the announcement on Wednesday (September 2) at a reception for high-achieving scout students at the auditorium of the International Mother Language Institute.

“Talented students make us happy. But we also have to work with those who could not achieve good results,” the minister said. He added that he would meet students from Kachua who failed their examinations next Saturday.

Highlighting the importance of scouting, Milon said students learn public service, leadership, love for people and dedication to the country through scouting. Such programmes, he said, help develop future leaders.

The minister noted that many people currently serving the state in important positions as secretaries were once students themselves. He said they used their talent and abilities to serve the country and expressed hope that today’s students would similarly reach important positions in running the state in the future.

Announcing an initiative to increase the budget for Scouts, he said, “I was just given a slip saying that Tk 5 crore will be provided to increase the budget for Scouts.”

The minister also stressed the importance of sports and moral education in the country’s education system. He said society must be brought back from drug addiction and environments lacking morality, and that arrangements for sports have therefore been introduced from the primary level.

He said the prime minister is encouraging primary school students to participate in football competitions, while arrangements are being made for uniforms and mid-day meals for primary students. Sports culture, “learning happiness” and technical education are being incorporated into the curriculum from Grade 4, he said.

A separate scheme has been taken up for Scouts, while initiatives are also being taken for the Bangladesh National Cadet Corps (BNCC), the minister added.

Addressing the students, Milon said, “You must not deviate from morality and ideals. You have to study. You must respect your parents and teachers.” He said discipline and adherence to ideals were essential for nation-building and that the Bangladesh of tomorrow would be built by today’s students.

Congratulating the students present at the event, the minister said those who performed well would be rewarded and honoured. He also said more such programmes should be organised to help develop the next generation into capable and humane citizens.

The Special Events Department of Bangladesh Scouts organises an annual reception for talented scouts and rover scouts who achieve GPA-5 in both the SSC and HSC examinations. At the reception, each student receives a medal, a congratulatory letter, prescribed travel allowance and Tk 2,000 through online payment.

As part of this initiative, 580 talented scouts and rover scouts who achieved GPA-5 in the 2025 SSC and HSC examinations were honoured at the International Mother Language Institute on Wednesday.

Education Ministry and Ministry of Primary and Mass Education Adviser Mahdi Amin and Bangladesh Scouts President and Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Gani attended the event as special guests. ABM Abdus Sattar, chief national commissioner of Bangladesh Scouts and principal secretary to the prime minister, chaired the programme, while Deputy Chief National Commissioner of Bangladesh Scouts Mir Mahbubur Rahman Snigdha delivered the welcome address.
