Moon sighted in Bangladesh: Eid-ul-Adha to be celebrated on May 28
The holy Dhul Hijjah moon for the Hijri year 1447 has been sighted in the skies of Bangladesh, scheduling the celebration of Eid-ul-Adha—one of the largest religious festivals for Muslims—for May 28 across the country.
Religious Affairs Minister Kazi Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad announced the decision on Monday (May 18) evening following a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee at the Islamic Foundation's conference room in Baitul Mukarram.
According to committee officials, the first confirmed reports of the moon sighting emerged from Cox's Bazar as local residents and district administration authorities verified the visual sighting of the crescent moon.
The initial confirmation from the coastal district was thoroughly cross-checked alongside reports from various other regions across the country. Following rigorous evaluation, representatives from the Ministry of Religious Affairs and the National Moon Sighting Committee formally declared that the month of Dhul Hijjah will officially commence on Tuesday (May 19). Consequently, the 10th of Dhul Hijjah, marking the holy Eid-ul-Adha, will be observed nationwide on May 28.
