The University Grants Commission (UGC) has directed Global University Bangladesh, a private university located in Barishal, to stop admitting new students in all programmes from the January 2026 session onwards.

The decision is based on the recommendations of a three-member inspection committee formed by the commission and the resolutions of the 58th meeting of the UGC, according to a letter signed by Director of the Private University Management Division of the commission, Dr Md Sultan Mahmud Bhuiyan.

The Board of Trustees of the university includes Awami League Presidium Member and former minister Jahangir Kabir Nanak as Secretary, his wife Syeda Arjuman Banu Nargis as Chairperson, and their daughter S. Amrin Rakhi as Vice-Chairperson.
