Ali Hossain Fakir appointed IGP
The government has appointed Md. Ali Hossain Fakir, currently Additional Inspector General of Police (Addl. IGP) and head of the Armed Police Battalion (APBn), as the new Inspector General of Police (IGP).
A gazette notification was issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on Tuesday (24 February).
Md. Ali Hossain Fakir is a member of the 15th BCS (Police) cadre. A native of Bagerhat, he has previously served successfully as Deputy Commissioner of DMP and in UN missions.
His career has seen ups and downs: in 1997, he was first dismissed under the Awami League government. He was reinstated during BNP’s tenure through legal action. In 2022, under the last Awami League government, he was again sent into forced retirement. Following the fall of that government on 5 August 2024, he was reinstated through legal process and has been serving as APBn chief until now.
