Coast Guard Seizes 40,000 Yaba, Rohingya Smuggler Arrested

Bangladesh Coast Guard arrested a Rohingya drug trafficker and seized approximately 40,000 Yaba tablets during an operation in Teknaf’s Shah Porir Dwip area of Cox’s Bazar.

Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haque confirmed the incident on Tuesday (24 February) afternoon.

The arrested individual is Nurus Safa (47), son of late Bacha Mia from Napit Dail in Maungdaw, Myanmar.

According to a press release, acting on secret information, Coast Guard members conducted a raid at around 5:00 am on Tuesday in the Naf River near Jalia Para in Shah Porir Dwip, Teknaf.

During the search of a suspicious wooden boat, they recovered 40,000 Yaba tablets with an estimated street value of around Tk 2 crore. The trafficker was arrested from the boat, and the vessel used for smuggling was seized.

Legal action is underway against the seized Yaba and the arrested person at the relevant police station.
