DUCSU member Umma Uswatun Rafia has formally written to the Vice-Chancellor and Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University (DU) urging the immediate introduction of a teacher evaluation system. The letter, also signed by DUCSU VP Sadik Kayem, has been positively received at the administrative level.

Rafia shared the update in a late-night Facebook post on Sunday (22 February), stating: “Teacher evaluation was in my manifesto during DUCSU elections. I usually avoid ‘work in progress’ updates before completion, but I have been asked repeatedly about it. Since my part is done, here is the update.”

She explained that she began working on the issue in October last year, studying questionnaires and models from private universities. After extensive follow-ups with ICT Cell, Registrar Building, VC Office, Pro-VC Office, and multiple letters, the Vice-Chancellor assured her last Thursday that the matter had been approved at the Academic Council and Syndicate meetings, with everyone giving policy-level consent.

Rafia noted that some minor adjustments are needed in certain Science faculty departments (due to labs), and work on those is ongoing. On the same day, she met Pro-VC (Academics) Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed, who confirmed the matter is under his supervision and assured her that necessary processes will be completed.

She added: “I asked if I could assist further to speed things up. Sir said nothing more is needed from my side; he will handle the rest. Knowing it’s in capable hands and there are no more policy or technical barriers, I am sharing this update.”

Rafia mentioned that the ICT Cell completed all technical work months ago. Once each department’s ICT Cell unlocks the website, the evaluation system can be activated.

She expressed confidence that the administration will soon implement the system, attaching her latest letter to the administration in the post.
