For now, suspend all demands: Mirza Fakhrul

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir urged groups protesting for demands to pause their actions, suggesting their intentions seem questionable. Speaking at a meeting in Gopalpur Government Primary School field, Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila, he said, “Some institutions are on the streets; their motives don’t seem good. Please stop your protests for now. Don’t create divisions.”
He emphasized resolving disputes like proportional representation (PR) in parliament, with agreed issues included in the July Charter and others decided via referendum. “Let the election happen to end instability. We don’t want divisive politics, Hindu-Muslim rifts, or violence. We want peace,” he added.
Fakhrul called for halting protest marches over PR and allowing the election to proceed, stating, “Let the people of Bangladesh live. End the unrest. Make the right decision.” He promised that if BNP wins, it will create jobs for 10 million people, provide family cards to every household, and prioritize health, education, and farmers.
On elections, he said, “I’ll vote for whom I want. We don’t want division. The people’s choice will win. Don’t harm the country with fragmentation. We want a democratic Bangladesh with harmony and brotherhood. I haven’t left you; don’t forget, our symbol is the sheaf of paddy.”
BNP district general secretary Paygam Ali, Sadar Upazila general secretary Mahbub Hossain Tuhin, and other party leaders were present.
