Dhaka University Assistant Professor Shehrin Amin Bhuiyan Monami has accused some university students of repeatedly tagging and harassing her on social media. She raised the allegation in a post from her verified Facebook account on Saturday (September 5).

Asst. Prof Monami said she had been busy throughout the day moving houses and, after returning home exhausted, checked Facebook before going to sleep, where she learned about the alleged harassment.

She said some Dhaka University students, including one whom she described as a Shibir supporter or member, had allegedly written inappropriate comments about female students in their classes. She said she had also been included in the list of people allegedly being harassed.

“I learned about this after logging into Facebook. I took the details from a student so that I could file a complaint. I decided that I would take whatever measures are possible from my end against them. But the morning has to come first,” she wrote.

She further alleged that she was being “constantly tagged” and harassed on social media, along with being subjected to taunts and disparaging remarks.

“Yet it is the students of Dhaka University who are doing this. Since it is a political rivalry, and because I have previously spoken positively about Shibir, do I not deserve to be targeted anew so that they can sleep peacefully at night?” she wrote.
