BUET admission test date yet to be decided for 2026-27
At least eight universities, including the University of Dhaka, University of Chittagong, University of Rajshahi and three engineering universities, have announced their admission test schedules for the 2026-27 academic year. Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), which traditionally holds its admission test relatively early, has yet to set a schedule.
The BUET admission committee is expected to hold a meeting this week to make an initial decision on the matter. The final decision will be taken at a meeting of the university’s Academic Council, officials said.
The timing of the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations and publication of the results will be taken into consideration when deciding the schedule, according to officials concerned.
Professor Dr Md Kamrul Hasan, chairman of the BUET Admission Committee, told The Daily Campus on Sunday (August 30) that no date had been fixed yet.
“We have not set a date yet. There is still about a month left before the HSC examinations end. Therefore, it is not possible to set a final date before the results are published. However, we will sit on Wednesday and make an initial decision,” he said.
HSC results key to BUET admission process
Professor Kamrul Hasan said the HSC results are an important part of BUET’s admission process because students must meet specific GPA requirements to qualify for the admission test.
“Our admission process depends on the HSC results. Students can apply if they meet the required GPA criteria. We collect the results from the education boards and conduct the admission test based on those results. Until the results are available, we cannot make a final decision,” he said.
He said the admission test system would remain unchanged from previous years.
“The admission test method will remain the same as before. After the preliminary application, a specific number of students will be allowed to sit for the admission test. The number of seats will be considered in this regard. However, no decision has yet been made on how many students will be allowed to take the test,” he said.
BUET unlikely to follow December schedules blindly
Regarding other universities announcing their admission test dates, Professor Kamrul Hasan said the HSC examinations and results would likely extend into November.
“The examinations will take at least until November to finish and for the results to be published. Other universities have already booked dates in December. But if the results are not published on time for any reason, those schedules cannot be maintained. That is why we have not made any decision yet,” he said.
He added that the admission committee would make an initial decision on Wednesday before placing the matter before the Academic Council. The council will take the final decision.
BUET Registrar Professor Dr Naib Md Golam Zakaria also said no decision had yet been taken regarding the admission test.
“No decision has been taken yet regarding the admission test. The matter will be discussed at a meeting of the Academic Council, after which a decision will be made,” he told The Daily Campus.
