The government will send 20 individuals injured in the 2024 mass uprising to Bangkok for advanced medical treatment. Each person has been allocated 20 lakh taka, totaling 4.2 crore taka, for initial treatment costs. Most will be accompanied by a family member as an attendant, per a government order issued on July 10.
The injured will receive care at Vejthani Hospital in Bangkok for 60 days. They are currently under treatment at the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR) in Dhaka. The selected individuals include Kazi Md. Jaber Hossain, Shahadat Hossain, Firoz Ahmed, Nadim, Shahadat Hossain Khan, Md. Hasan, Md. Sharifull Islam, Md. Shahenur Islam, Touhidul Islam, Naser Uddin Emili, Md. Yasir Arafat, Mosharraf Hossain, Md. Tanvir Hossain, Md. Ariful Islam, Md. Johurul Islam, Ashik Howladar, Md. Sajib Hossain, Yasin, Shamim Miya, and Md. Mobarak Hossain.
Previous groups sent abroad for treatment faced challenges due to insufficient attendants and language barriers. To address this, each warrior will have a family member—such as a parent, spouse, or sibling—accompanying them, except for five individuals.
Kazi Md. Jaber Hossain told The Daily Campus: “I was shot in Jatrabari during the movement. Despite prolonged treatment, my broken bones and knee issues persist. I hope treatment in Bangkok helps me return to normal life. The departure date is yet to be finalized.”
Md. Abdul Latif Hossain, father of injured warrior Yasir Arafat, said: “My son was injured in Jatrabari. His left arm is damaged. We’ve faced many treatment challenges. I hope he recovers fully in Bangkok. We’re still awaiting confirmation on the travel date.”
