Nasiruddin Patwary Backs Protesting HSC Candidates
Nasiruddin Patwary, Chief Coordinator of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has strongly expressed solidarity with the ongoing demands of protesting Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and Alim candidates. He condemned the recurring tendency to label student-led movements with political identities, emphasizing that peaceful demonstration is a fundamental right in a democratic society.
In a social media statement posted today, Tuesday (July 14), amidst countrywide student unrest demanding the resignation of the education minister, the NCP leader noted that forcing students to reach examination centers under dangerous weather conditions has caused justifiable public outrage. He asserted that it is the government's primary responsibility to seriously acknowledge this public dissatisfaction and actively seek solutions through direct dialogue.
Expressing concern over the potential escalation of campus tensions, Patwary urged political organizations, including the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and Bangladesh Chhatra League, to refrain from exploiting the crisis to further inflame the situation. He also called on law enforcement agencies to exercise maximum restraint and entirely avoid the unnecessary use of force against demonstrating students.
The NCP chief coordinator underscored that accountability is a sign of leadership strength rather than weakness in a democracy. He proposed that the best path forward would involve engaging in a direct, responsible dialogue with the students, issuing a public apology for the administrative oversight, and considering the resignation of the responsible official if public trust cannot be restored. Patwary concluded his statement by assuring his full support for the HSC and Alim candidates of the 2026 batch, adding that a comprehensive reform of the national education system has become a crucial demand of the time.
