Bangladesh and Japan today held extensive bilateral talks focusing on matters of mutual strategic interest, with a primary emphasis on expanding defense and military cooperation. The diplomatic dialogue took place during a courtesy call paid by Japanese Ambassador Saida Shinichi on the Prime Minister's Defence Adviser, Brigadier General (Retired) Dr. AKM Shamsul Islam, at the Armed Forces Division (AFD) headquarters in Dhaka Cantonment.

Ambassador Shinichi led a high-level three-member Japanese delegation to the meeting. According to an official statement released by the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate, the discussions centered heavily on securing potential Japanese technological assistance to advance the modernization of the Bangladesh Armed Forces and to accelerate the implementation of the nation's long-term military modernization blueprint, known as the "Forces Goal."

The bilateral framework established several concrete pathways for enhanced cooperation:

The two nations agreed to substantially increase high-level regular exchanges of military delegations to build professional ties. Both sides committed to strengthening technical capacity-building initiatives and providing advanced training opportunities for the armed forces personnel of both countries. The delegations also held exploratory discussions on new avenues for the mutual exchange of modern defense equipment and advanced military technologies.

The high-level engagement is expected to further consolidate the longstanding friendly relations between Dhaka and Tokyo. The ISPR noted that the meeting successfully laid the groundwork to deepen long-term strategic and mutually beneficial cooperation between the defense forces of the two countries, enhancing regional security and technical collaboration under their broader bilateral strategic partnership.
