Securing Malaysian Investment Government's Top Priority: PMO Spokesperson
The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has declared that securing high-value foreign direct investment from Malaysia remains a primary strategic objective of the current administration. The confirmation came during a press briefing conducted by PMO Spokesperson Mahdi Amin at the Shangri-La Hotel in Kuala Lumpur today (June 22).
Mahdi Amin, who also serves as the Prime Minister’s Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Adviser, revealed that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman held high-level executive meetings with the chief executive officers of five of Malaysia’s most prominent corporate conglomerates to pitch Bangladesh's optimized economic landscape.
The spokesperson underlined that Bangladesh is actively transitioning toward deep economic liberalization by rolling out aggressive deregulation policies and fast-tracking bilateral free trade frameworks to secure global capital.
“We are moving toward economic liberalization through the signing of free trade agreements and pursuing deregulation policies. The main objective is to attract investment from different parts of the world. From our perspective, Malaysia is one of the key targets. By combining our high domestic market demand with a robust, skilled workforce, we have assured potential investors that our government will provide maximum policy support to maintain a pro-business framework.” — Mahdi Amin, PMO Spokesperson
Before wrapping up his two-day maiden overseas state visit and departing for Dalian, China, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman held separate closed-door corporate sessions with top-tier executives from five major Malaysian market leaders to solidify commercial partnerships.
Among the delegations, talks with the Petronas Group focused on strategic energy corridors, liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies, and infrastructure development, while consultations with the Axiata Group centered on expanding telecommunications infrastructure and digital banking ecosystem enhancements.
Furthermore, deliberations with AirAsia touched upon regional aviation connectivity and tourism logistics, dialogues with Perodua explored automotive manufacturing setups and technical skills transfers, and discussions with the MMC Group covered large-scale maritime port management and logistical hubs.
A New Chapter in Fraternal Ties
Mahdi Amin noted that the Prime Minister's historic state visit has successfully initiated an unprecedented chapter in bilateral diplomacy. During the inter-governmental summit, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim heavily emphasized the deep-rooted historical and fraternal bonds connecting the two nations, agreeing to systematically dismantle trading barriers to expand mutual industrial output.
The high-profile PMO press conference in Kuala Lumpur was also attended by the Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Humaiun Kobir, Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Ruman, Deputy Press Secretary Jahidul Islam Rony, and Bangladesh Deputy High Commissioner to Malaysia Mosammat Shahanara Monica.
