NCP Convener Nasiruddin Patwari’s Convoy Attacked in Benapole, 4 Injured
The motorcade of National Citizen Party (NCP) Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari was targeted in a sudden ambush at Benapole Bazar today at around 1:15 PM. At least four people sustained injuries during the assault, though Nasiruddin Patwari, NCP Joint Member Secretary Faridul Haq, and other senior leaders present in the vehicle escaped unharmed.
The injured individuals have been identified as Chhatrashakti leaders Khan Miftahul Mostafiz Amit and Taskin Ahmed Tajim, and Juboshakti leader Rupam Ahsan Ornob.
The attack occurred shortly after Nasiruddin Patwari expressed fierce resentment over recent high-profile disclosures made by Mamata Banerjee, the chief of India's Trinamool Congress and former Chief Minister of West Bengal, regarding a sensational murder case in Bangladesh.
Speaking to media personnel earlier in the day at the Sadipur border area under Benapole Port Police Station in Jessore, the NCP Chief Coordinator demanded immediate accountability from the current administration.
"The government must answer how such a high-profile criminal managed to flee Bangladesh, completely evading the watchful eyes of our administration and law enforcement agencies," Patwari questioned.
The political backlash stems from a public rally held on Tuesday at Dharmatala in Kolkata, where Mamata Banerjee claimed that an accused individual in a major Bangladeshi murder case had crossed into West Bengal via the Indian state of Meghalaya and was subsequently arrested by her state police.
Banerjee further alleged that India's Union Home Minister explicitly instructed her then-West Bengal government to maintain absolute silence on the arrest "in the interest of the nation". In her speech, she stated, "Who did you get to commit the murder? Whose names came to light? I know everything".
Notably, this rally marked Mamata Banerjee’s first major public appearance since her historic defeat in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly elections held this past April. The electoral loss effectively brought an end to her consecutive 15-year rule in the state, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) rising to power.
