What India Says Regarding Hadi Murder is Not Bangladesh’s Concern: State Minister
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obayed has stated that comments made in India regarding the murder of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi are not a concern for Bangladesh. The State Minister emphasized that the Bangladesh government is actively working to ensure justice for the Hadi murder case.
She made these remarks during a briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday (June 3) morning, following recent claims made by Mamata Banerjee, the former Chief Minister of West Bengal and chief of the Trinamool Congress.
Mamata Banerjee’s Claims in Kolkata
The diplomatic response follows a public rally held on Tuesday at Dharmatala in Kolkata, where Mamata Banerjee made a statement hinting at the Hadi murder case. She claimed that an accused individual in a Bangladeshi murder case had entered West Bengal through the Indian state of Meghalaya and was subsequently arrested by the local police.
Banerjee further alleged that India's Union Home Minister had instructed her then-West Bengal government to remain silent on the matter "in the interest of the nation." Commenting on the incident, she added, "Who did you get to commit the murder? Whose names came to light? I know everything."
Border Mine Explosions and Myanmar Relations
In the same briefing, the State Minister for Foreign Affairs addressed the ongoing security issues along the eastern frontier, stating that Bangladesh will hold formal talks with Myanmar regarding the recent landmine explosions along the border.
Describing the loss of lives in these landmine blasts as deeply tragic, she reiterated the government's commitment to addressing border safety with neighboring authorities.
