The National Citizen Party (NCP), a youth-led political outfit formed in the wake of the July mass uprising, has called for an emergency press conference tomorrow, Tuesday (May 5). The party hinted at "new surprises," as several prominent figures from various professional backgrounds and political spheres are expected to formally join its ranks.

According to a press release issued today, Monday (May 4), the event will take place at the party’s temporary office in Banglamotor, Dhaka. Senior leadership of the NCP will be present to welcome the new members. Rumors regarding the identities of these new joinees have already sparked significant interest within political circles.

This upcoming wave of affiliations follows a series of high-profile entries into the party. On April 23, several well-known individuals joined the NCP at an event held at the Institute of Diploma Engineers in Kakrail.

Notable names included Fersamin Huq Iqbal Flora, the granddaughter of Sher-e-Bangla A.K. Fazlul Huq; content creator Nuruzzaman Kafi; and former Dhaka University student activist Mohiuddin Roni, among others. Prior to that, Ishaq Sarkar, the former central organizational secretary of Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal, also joined the party along with a large group of supporters.

The NCP has rapidly expanded its base since mid-April. On April 19, at least 35 leaders and activists from various organizations—including the Amar Bangladesh (AB) Party, Up Bangladesh, and the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement—merged into the party. Key figures among them were Ali Ahsan Junaid, convener of Up Bangladesh; Rifat Rashid, former president of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement; and Barrister Abdul Huq Sani, joint general secretary of the AB Party.

With tomorrow’s press conference, the NCP continues to position itself as a central platform for youth and professionals seeking a new direction in the country’s evolving political landscape.
