PM Tarique Rahman’s Govt Marks 28 Days with 28 Bold Steps

Adviser Mahdi Amin Calls It an “Unprecedented Campaign”

On the first-month anniversary of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s government formation, his adviser Mahdi Amin has described the 28 major steps taken in just 28 days as an “unprecedented campaign of action.” In a Facebook post on Tuesday morning (17 March), Mahdi Amin highlighted the initiatives as a clear reflection of the government’s commitment to the people.

In his post titled “Prime Minister’s 28 Steps in 28 Days: An Unprecedented Campaign,” Mahdi Amin wrote: “Today is 17 March. Exactly one month ago, the BNP government, led by the people-elected Hon’ble Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, took office. In just 28 days, he has worked tirelessly every moment to fulfil election pledges. These steps are not mere administrative actions — they are a clear reflection of accountability to the people.”

He listed the 28 key steps taken in the first month, covering social protection, economy, administration, education, health, security, and national values:

Social Protection & Humanitarian Support  
1. Family Card Programme – 37,567 families received Family Cards with Tk 2,500 monthly assistance. Implemented in just 21 days — a shining example of humanitarian priority.  
2. Honorarium for Imams, Muezzins & Religious Servants – 4,908 mosque imams-muezzins, 990 temple priests, 144 Buddhist monastery abbots, and 396 church pastors/priests now receive monthly honorarium.  
3. Eid Relief & Gifts – Sarees, three-piece outfits, and Hajj handkerchiefs distributed to the poor in constituencies; Eid gifts for all sanitation workers.  
4. Institutional Zakat System – Discussions with scholars initiated to establish institutional zakat for reaching the poor and welfare activities.

Agriculture & Rural Economy  
5. Farmer Card & Agricultural Loan Waiver – Nearly 27,000 farmers issued Farmer Cards; up to Tk 10,000 loan waiver for 1.2 million small & marginal farmers to boost cultivation.  
6. Nationwide Canal Excavation Programme – 20,000 km of canals & water bodies to be excavated; work started in 54 districts already — will improve irrigation, reduce waterlogging, and create jobs.

Administrative Reform & Good Governance  
7. Weekly Office & Attendance Rules – PM attends office on Saturdays; officials must be present by 9:00 a.m.  
8. Reduction of VIP Protocol – PM’s simple movement brings historic change in traffic; encourages public compliance.  
9. Limited Airport Protocol – Only one senior minister, Chief Whip, Cabinet Secretary, and Principal Secretary present.  
10. Cancellation of MPs’ Special Privileges – No duty-free cars or government plots — saves public money and restores trust.

Economy & Market Stability  
11. Market Monitoring & Fuel Stability – Price control during Ramadan & Eid; spot LNG purchase to keep power supply stable amid global crisis.  
12. Simplified Foreign Investment – No prior Bangladesh Bank approval needed for up to Tk 100 crore repatriation.  
13. Workers’ Salary & Bonus Assurance – All factories ensure timely payment of wages & Eid bonus; Tk 2,500 crore allocated for RMG & export-oriented sectors.  
14. Revival of Sick & Closed Industries – Phased reopening of closed state-owned factories to boost employment.  
15. Local Initiative & Employment Boost – Identification of underutilized economic zones, EPZs, BSCIC areas, hi-tech parks & industry clusters for new businesses and university-industry linkage.

Education & Human Resource Development  
16. Reinstatement Fee Abolition & Lottery Removal – No annual reinstatement fee; modern admission test/interview instead of lottery; teacher benefits enhancement.  
17. Support for Higher Education Abroad – Up to Tk 10 lakh state-backed bank guarantee without collateral.  
18. Religious Teacher Recruitment – 9,000 teachers to strengthen moral & religious values.  
19. Sports Development & New Kuri Programme – School grounds open for children; new initiatives in culture, sports, Quran recitation; 18 sports teachers per upazila in 6 sports.

Health & Public Welfare  
20. e-Health Card & Treatment Centres – e-Health Card rollout; 100,000 health workers recruitment (80% women).  
21. Dengue Prevention Drive – Weekly national cleanliness campaign; coordinated action with local administration & community.

Law & Order & Security  
22. Action Against Extortion – Rapid action by intelligence & law enforcement.  
23. Women’s Safety & Pink Bus – Fully women-operated Pink Bus directive; cyberbullying prevention.

State Discipline & Values  
24. Limited State Iftar & Power Saving – Half fans & ACs in government offices; waste reduction.  
25. Eviction of Illegal Shops – 20-year-old illegal shops evicted from Cox’s Bazar Sugandha Sea Beach; nationwide coordinated drive.  
26. Martyred Army Day – 25 February declared National Martyred Army Day; emphasis on transparent trial of Pilkhana massacre.  
27. Third Terminal Hazrat Shahjalal Airport – High-level meeting & strategy to expedite third terminal operation.  
28. Free Internet at Airports & Moving Trains – Free Wi-Fi at Dhaka, Chattogram & Sylhet airports; launch at Saidpur Airport.
