A three-member high-level investigation committee has been formed to probe the tragic deaths of six newborn infants in a ward at Ad-din Medical College Hospital in the capital's Moghbazar area. The specialized probe body comprises top officials from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the police.

The Director General of the DGHS, Professor Dr. Provat Chandra Biswas, disclosed the information to reporters today, Wednesday, following an emergency physical inspection of the hospital premises.

The newly formed investigation committee has been issued a strict directive to conduct a thorough evaluation and submit its formal investigative report within the next 72 hours. Furthermore, as an immediate precautionary measure to ensure patient safety, the health authorities have ordered the temporary suspension of all operations at the hospital's Post-Operative Ward and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

A senior official from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare stated that preliminary assessments strongly indicate a critical technical malfunction within the ward's life-support systems may have caused the catastrophic event.

To pinpoint the exact nature of the operational failure, a specialized forensic and technical team from the CID has already arrived at the hospital. The expert unit has begun analyzing the central oxygen supply lines, electrical grids, and medical machinery within the sealed units.

Hospital authorities have pledged full cooperation with the law enforcement and health ministry investigators as they work to establish accountability behind the sudden spike in neonatal mortality.
