Cyclone 'Montha' Intensifies, Rain Forecast for Five Days Across Country
The deep depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal has intensified into cyclone "Montha". As of Monday evening around 6:00pm, it was located over the southwest and west-central Bay of Bengal and adjacent areas. According to the Meteorological Department's forecast, the cyclone may move north-northwest and strengthen further. It could cross the Andhra Pradesh coast in India by Tuesday evening or night.
The weather synopsis indicates that cyclone "Montha" is currently at 13.2°N and 84°E, advancing northwest with its extended portion already spreading to the northern Bay of Bengal.
This information was released in the forecast from 6:00pm Monday to the next 120 hours by the Meteorological Department.
Rainfall is expected to increase across most parts of the country from Tuesday to Thursday. Moderate to heavy rain is likely in most areas of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, and Chattogram divisions, and many places in Sylhet division. On Wednesday, daytime and nighttime temperatures may drop by 1 to 3 degrees Celsius nationwide.
Light to moderate rain is forecast to continue in most areas on Thursday and Friday, with heavy rain possible in some parts of Rangpur, Rajshahi, and Mymensingh divisions. Temperatures are expected to remain nearly steady across the country, according to the Met Office.
The Meteorological Department warns that cyclone "Montha" will bring rain to various parts of the country for the next five days. Coastal residents are urged to follow subsequent directives and maintain vigilance.
