Putting an end to months of intense nationwide speculation, Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury has formally announced the implementation of the 9th National Pay Scale in the Jatiya Sangsad. Presenting the national budget for the 2026–27 fiscal year on Thursday, the Finance Minister declared that the new salary architecture will take effect from July 1, 2026, though specific direct sector-wise allocations for this expenditure were not explicitly detailed in the speech.

Phased Rollout to Mitigate Inflationary Pressures

Delivering his budget speech before the house, the Finance Minister acknowledged the long-standing economic strain experienced by public sector employees due to macroeconomic factors.

"Government employees have been receiving their salaries and allowances under the same wage structure for nearly 11 years. Meanwhile, the cost of living has risen significantly due to inflationary pressures. We are formally announcing the implementation of a new salary structure for government employees, to be rolled out in a phased manner starting July 1, 2026." — Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Finance Minister

According to the Finance Minister's policy statement, public servants will begin reaping the benefits of the updated framework starting next month.

Focus on Balanced Regional Development

Beyond the immediate scope of public sector wage reforms, the Finance Minister contextualized the pay scale declaration within the government’s broader macroeconomic vision for social parity. He emphasized that the state is actively executing multi-dimensional strategies to minimize economic, social, and infrastructural disparities across the different regions of the country, thereby fostering equitable and balanced national growth.
