The government is moving ahead with plans to implement the 9th National Pay Scale starting from the 2026-27 fiscal year. A budgetary allocation of at least 35,000 crore BDT is nearly finalized for the upcoming national budget. Clearing up earlier ambiguities, official sources have confirmed that around 478,000 Monthly Pay Order (MPO) teachers and staff will fully benefit from this new salary structure.

The structural blueprint features a standard 50% basic salary hike for higher tiers. Additionally, there are strong proposals for a 100% basic salary increase for employees positioned between the 11th and 20th grades.

According to sources within the Ministries of Education and Finance, the new pay scale will not be deployed all at once. Instead, the financial adjustments will be systematically phased over three consecutive fiscal years to manage macroeconomic pressures.

Government and MPO employees will begin receiving the first half of their new basic salary increment this coming July. The remaining half of the basic salary adjustment will be integrated into the subsequent fiscal year. Following this, the various allowances and structural benefits under the 9th Pay Scale will be introduced step-by-step during the 2028-2029 fiscal year.

Because the national exchequer finances the core basic component of MPO salaries, the revised scales will immediately apply to the country's 26,093 MPO-enlisted institutions. Under the proposed 50% basic salary increment model, top academic administrators and senior faculties will see substantial shifts in their monthly baseline compensation:

  • College Principals (4th Grade): The current basic salary of 50,000 BDT will experience an upward revision to 75,000 BDT.

  • Assistant Professors (6th Grade): Current monthly basic pay will rise from 35,500 BDT to 53,250 BDT.

  • Vice Principals and Headmasters (7th Grade): Baseline salaries will elevate from 29,000 BDT to 43,500 BDT.

  • College Lecturers (9th Grade): Entry-level basic pay will transition from 22,000 BDT to 33,000 BDT.

  • Assistant Teachers with B.Ed. (10th Grade): The existing baseline of 16,000 BDT will jump to 24,000 BDT.

The final financial impact for employees in the 11th to 20th grades remains subject to two separate implementation scenarios currently under review. For 11th-grade assistant teachers without a B.Ed., the current basic of 12,500 BDT will climb to 18,750 BDT under a 50% hike, or touch 25,000 BDT under a 100% implementation. In the 16th grade, office assistants and computer operators will see their existing basic of 9,300 BDT rise to 13,950 BDT under a 50% bump, or double to 18,600 BDT under a 100% adjustment.

Similarly, 18th-grade lab assistants will scale up from 8,800 BDT to either 13,200 BDT or 17,600 BDT. Twentieth-grade support staff, including security guards and office assistants, will see their entry-level basic of 8,250 BDT elevate to 12,375 BDT with a 50% boost, or peak at 16,500 BDT under the 100% scenario.

Principal Delwar Hossain Azizi, member-secretary of the MPO Nationalization Expectant Alliance, stated that since they operate under the existing government structure, MPO staff will definitely be included. The final, definitive figures regarding the pay scale allocations will be revealed on June 11, when the budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year is formally presented in parliament.
