Arrangements underway for 10 lakh govt employees to vote: CEC

The Election Commission (EC) is making arrangements to ensure voting rights for around 10 lakh government employees on duty during the upcoming 13th national parliament election.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A.M.M. Nasir Uddin shared this while speaking at a dialogue with electronic media representatives at the EC Bhaban in Agargaon today.
The event, held at 10:30am in the conference room, featured goodwill remarks from the CEC, with other commissioners and senior officials present.
In his speech, the CEC said, “We will make arrangements for expatriate voters and government employees on duty. Initiatives are underway to enable about 10 lakh government employees to exercise their franchise.”
He added, “The EC is working to ensure the process is as transparent as a mirror.”
On voter list updates, the CEC informed that the process is ongoing, with around 21 lakh deceased voters identified so far. “Many of these deceased voters had been casting votes earlier. They are now being removed from the list,” he said.
Seeking media cooperation, the CEC stated, “The EC is committed to holding a fair and acceptable election. The media has a vital role in creating a level playing field, particularly in curbing the misuse of artificial intelligence (AI).”
Today, the EC held two dialogues with media representatives: one with TV outlets at 10:30am and another with print and online media at 2:30pm, attended by about 50 journalists.
Tomorrow (October 7), the EC will engage with female leaders and election experts, followed by phased dialogues with freedom fighters and representatives of various political parties.
The CEC assured, “The EC is committed to implementing key opinions emerging from these dialogues.”
