Fascists Plotted Religious Strife by Bearding Asur Idols in 793 Puja Mandaps: Home Adviser

Home Adviser Jahangir Alam accused fascists and their allies of attempting to spark religious division and communal violence by placing beards on Asura faces in 793 Durga Puja mandaps nationwide, claiming some fascist intellectuals fueled the plot.
He stated, “This conspiracy failed. Durga Puja concluded peacefully, securely, and festively.”
Alam revealed GDs were filed in every case, with investigations underway; some perpetrators identified but not yet arrested. Religious leaders were informed and cooperated, aided by CCTV in many mandaps.
The remarks came during a post-core committee meeting press briefing at the Secretariat Sunday, covering national and hill tract law and order, Puja, RUCSU and CUCSU elections, national polls, theft-extortion, drugs, Rohingya camps, and arms situations.
On the North South University Quran desecration arrest: “Investigation isn't complete; can't confirm links yet.”
Alam alleged a neighboring country (implied India) sought to destabilize Bangladesh by depicting Chief Adviser Yunus derogatorily in Puja idols, linking it to the Asura bearding.
He credited security forces, intelligence, Puja committees, and media for thwarting the scheme.
On the hill rape allegation: “No rape evidence in medical report; army and forces, with locals' help, managed it well. Blockades and Section 144 withdrawn.”
Addressing claims the interim government blames India for instability: “Who are you blaming? We see it ourselves—not what they say. Their quotes mean nothing to us.”
On whether the neighbor wants a stable Bangladesh or election disruption: “We'll investigate and respond.”
