Army Deployed in 6 Districts to Thwart Awami League
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) has directed the deployment of the Bangladesh Army across six strategic districts, including the capital, to maintain law and order. Issued today, Monday (June 22), the directive places troops on active field duty in Dhaka, Narayanganj, Gopalganj, Chattogram, Faridpur, and Gazipur until June 30.
Intelligence agencies warned that the banned Awami League (AL) might attempt to trigger widespread instability to mark its founding anniversary on June 23. In response, military personnel will operate alongside the Police and RAB to preemptively secure key positions and block any disruptive political gatherings.
Law enforcement units had already initiated a coordinated security sweep 48 hours prior to the announcement, conducting targeted raids and checkpoint searches to detain local AL leaders. Despite the heavy security presence, scattered flash mobs and brief processions by AL activists have been reported in several areas over the last two days.
"Under no circumstances will the fallen fascist Awami League be permitted to occupy the streets. We will not tolerate any attempts to create chaos under the guise of their anniversary. Alongside law enforcement agencies, our activists will maintain a vigilant, active presence on the highways." — Abdul Monayem Munna, President, Jubo Dal
Concurrently, the BNP’s affiliate organizations—including Jubo Dal, Chhatra Dal, and Swechhasebak Dal—have finalized independent field strategies to block any public resurgence by the AL. This dual deployment of state security forces and opposition activists has significantly heightened political tensions across the major metropolitan hubs.
