Govt May Reverify 49th BCS Recommended Candidates
Candidates successfully recommended for appointment in the 49th (Special) BCS examination may undergo a fresh round of background verification. Sources have indicated that this re-verification process is likely to be conducted through the National Security Intelligence (NSI).
On October 11 of last year, the Public Service Commission (PSC) issued its final recommendations, selecting 668 candidates for recruitment into the education cadre under the 49th Special BCS. Despite nearly seven months passing since the recruitment recommendations were made, the selected candidates have still not been able to officially join their posts. This prolonged delay in the appointment process has triggered widespread frustration and disappointment among the recommended individuals.
Double Documentation and Transitional Delays
According to sources within the PSC, the Ministry of Public Administration has collected the academic and personal documents of the 49th BCS recommended candidates in two separate phases. The first batch of documents, gathered during the tenure of the interim government, was verified through a law enforcement agency under the police administration. Following the subsequent formation of the government by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), documentation was collected for a second time, a process that concluded nearly one and a half months ago.
Speaking on the condition of anonymity, a high-ranking official from the PSC confirmed the developments on Sunday. He noted that keeping the severe shortage of teachers in mind, the PSC had fast-tracked the 49th BCS examinations to recommend candidates rapidly. However, procedural delays related to background checks have continuously held up their final integration. The official added that based on available information, the candidates will now have to clear a subsequent verification round by the NSI.
When questioned about a definitive timeframe for the issuance of final joining directives, the official stated that candidate data was extracted from the PSC across two distinct intervals, with the latest batch handed over one and a half months prior. He emphasized that the exact timeline for formal placement can now only be clarified by the Ministry of Public Administration. Attempts to secure comments directly from the State Minister for Public Administration, Md. Abdul Bari, at his office were unsuccessful, while Joint Secretary Abul Hayat Md. Rafique declined to make any statement regarding the matter.
A Competitive Race for the Education Cadre
The official circular for the 49th BCS (Special)—an initiative tailored explicitly to address institutional deficits within the state education cadre—was originally published on July 21. The specialized examination generated intense competitive interest, drawing application submissions from more than 3,12,000 candidates nationwide.
Out of the vast pool of applicants, only 1,219 candidates successfully cleared the MCQ-type written examinations to qualify for the subsequent stages. Following the evaluation processes, the PSC published the final results of the 49th Special BCS on October 11, 2025, provisionally nominating 668 candidates for cadre placement. While these nominees continue to wait for an official clearance to start their professional careers, their fates remain anchored to the upcoming intelligence verification cycles.
