FIR Filed Against Mamata Banerjee Over Remarks on Bangladesh Murder Case
An First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against Mamata Banerjee over alleged provocative remarks made regarding the Union Home Ministry during a recent protest rally in Kolkata, police confirmed on Thursday.
The case was officially lodged at a cyber crime police station in Siliguri following a formal complaint filed by an advocate, Rinki Sen Chatterjee. The legal action stems from comments made by Banerjee during a public protest on June 2, where she brought up the murder of a Bangladeshi national and allegedly linked the incident to the Union Home Ministry and Home Minister Amit Shah.
According to the details of the complaint, Banerjee's public statements carry the risk of inflaming diplomatic tensions between India and Bangladesh. The complainant further asserted that such remarks could severely damage India's international image and potentially impact the security of the Hindu minority community living in Bangladesh.
Chatterjee also alleged in her complaint that making such statements was highly irresponsible, especially given Banerjee's previous administrative stature as a Chief Minister.
During the initial protest gathering in Kolkata, Banerjee had openly questioned the circumstances surrounding the murder case, specifically referencing the subsequent arrest of suspects by the state's Special Task Force.
Her controversial commentary has since triggered a major political showdown and subsequent legal repercussions. Local police authorities have confirmed the registration of the FIR and stated that a thorough investigation into the matter is currently underway.
