India has agreed to send back two accused individuals in the murder case of Shaheed Osman Hadi, the convener of the July Revolutionary and Anti-Hegemony Inquilab Platform, according to a statement from Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday (April 8).
Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman held meetings in New Delhi with India’s External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar and Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri. Bangladesh Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir and High Commissioner to India Riaz Hamidullah were also present at the meetings.
Earlier, on Tuesday evening (April 7), shortly after arriving in the Indian capital, Khalilur Rahman and Hamidullah met with India’s National Security Adviser Ajit Doval.
The Foreign Ministry stated that both sides emphasized strengthening bilateral relations across various sectors and discussed key regional and international issues.
Dr. Khalilur Rahman said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Tareq Rahman, the newly elected BNP government will pursue a “Bangladesh First” foreign policy based on mutual trust, respect, and shared interests.
He also thanked the Indian government for arresting the suspected killers of Osman Hadi. Both sides agreed that the accused would be returned to Bangladesh following the procedures outlined in the extradition treaty between the two countries.
Bangladesh also reiterated its request for the extradition of Sheikh Hasina—sentenced to death by the International Crimes Tribunal—and her former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal.
During the discussions, Minister Jaishankar said that India would simplify visa procedures for Bangladeshi nationals in the coming weeks, particularly for medical and business travel.
Khalilur Rahman expressed gratitude to Minister Hardeep Singh Puri for India’s recent diesel supply to Bangladesh and requested an increase in the supply of diesel and fertilizers. Minister Puri indicated that the Indian government would consider the request positively.
The Foreign Minister arrived in New Delhi on Tuesday for a three-day visit and is scheduled to depart for Mauritius on April 9.
