Court Orders DNA Test for 3 Suspects in Tonu Murder Case
The court has ordered DNA tests for three individuals in the sensational murder case of Sohagi Jahan Tonu, a student of Comilla Victoria Government College, exactly 10 years after the brutal killing.
On Monday (6 April), Chief Judicial Magistrate Md. Muminul Haque of Comilla court issued the order for DNA profiling of three retired army personnel — Jahid, Warrant Officer Hafizur Rahman, and Soldier Jahangir Alam. Their DNA will be matched with samples found on Tonu’s clothes.
The order was issued following an application by the investigating officer of the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), Inspector Md. Tariqul Islam.
Speaking emotionally in court, Tonu’s father, Yar Hossain, said:
“Prime Minister Tarique Rahman had promised that after coming to power, BNP would ensure justice for Tonu. I will now meet the Prime Minister and demand justice for my daughter. For the last 10 years, I have been running from door to door with my wife seeking justice, but I can’t take it anymore.”
On 20 March 2016, Tonu went to a residence inside Comilla Cantonment for tuition and never returned. Her body was later found in a bush near the cantonment’s power house. Her father filed a murder case the next day.
Despite investigations by local police, DB, and CID over the years, the case remained unsolved for a decade.
