Six Bangladeshi peacekeepers killed, eight injured in drone attack on UN base in Sudan’s Abyei

Six members of the Bangladesh Army serving as UN peacekeepers were killed and eight others injured in a drone attack carried out by a separatist armed group on a United Nations base in Sudan’s Abyei region on Saturday.

The attack targeted the Kadugli Logistic Base under the UN Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) between approximately 3:40 pm and 3:50 pm local time.

The martyred peacekeepers are:

  1. Corporal Md Masud Rana, ASC (Natore)
  2. Soldier Md Mominul Islam, Bir (Kurigram)
  3. Soldier Shamim Reza, Bir (Rajbari)
  4. Soldier Shanto Mandal, Bir (Kurigram)
  5. Mess Waiter Mohammad Jahangir Alam (Kishoreganj)
  6. Laundry Worker Md Sabuj Mia (Gaibandha)

The injured peacekeepers are:

  1. Lt Col Khondakar Khalequzzaman, psc, Ordnance (Kushtia)
  2. Sergeant Md Mostakim Hossain, Bir (Dinajpur)
  3. Corporal Afroza Parvin Iti, Signals (Dhaka)
  4. Lance Corporal Mohibul Islam, EME (Barguna)
  5. Soldier Md Mejbaul Kabir, Bir (Kurigram)
  6. Soldier Mosammat Umme Hani Akter, Engrs (Rangpur)
  7. Soldier Chumki Akter, Ordnance (Manikganj)
  8. Soldier Md Manazir Ahsan, Bir (Noakhali)

The eight injured are receiving necessary medical treatment. Soldier Md Mejbaul Kabir, whose condition is critical, has undergone successful surgery and is under intensive care. The remaining seven have been airlifted by helicopter for advanced treatment and are reported to be out of danger.

The Bangladesh Army has strongly condemned the brutal terrorist attack. The sacrifice of the martyred peacekeepers stands as a shining and glorious testament to Bangladesh’s commitment to establishing global peace.

On behalf of the Bangladesh Army, profound condolences are extended to the bereaved families of the martyrs, and prayers are offered for the speedy recovery of the injured.
