Algeria is set to expand its trade ties with Bangladesh by exporting animal proteins to support the country’s thriving livestock sector, which has grown significantly over the past two decades with robust government backing. On 20 May 2025, a $1.2 million contract was signed between Algeria’s Balat Brothers Slaughterhouse Company and Bangladesh’s Ashta Feed Industries Limited, with annual exports projected to reach $3.5 million.

The agreement, overseen by Algerian Minister of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion Professor Kamal Rezig, was signed by Lakhdar Balat, General Manager of Balat Group, and Mosharaf Hossain Chowdhury, Chairman of Ashta Feed Industries. Balat Brothers previously exported $2.5 million in animal proteins to Bangladesh over the past three years, and this deal will elevate their annual export value.

This move strengthens bilateral trade, aligning with Bangladesh’s need for high-quality feed to sustain its poultry and fisheries industries, which consume over 50% of the country’s animal feed. The contract reflects Algeria’s growing role in Asia’s feed market and Bangladesh’s push for sustainable livestock growth.
