Medical Admission Policy Set for Major Changes: When Is the Exam?

For the 2025-26 academic session, the date for the medical admission test for government and private medical colleges in Bangladesh has not yet been finalized. However, it is understood that preparations are underway to hold the admission process in December. Additionally, officials from the Directorate General of Medical Education (DGME) have hinted at significant changes to the admission policy. Work on the draft of the policy is currently in its preliminary stages.
Professor Dr. Rubina Yasmin, Additional Director General (Medical Education) at the DGME, told The Daily Campus, “The policy matter is still at the ground level. We cannot say anything definitively yet. However, we will sit with the ministry before December to finalize the policy, and only then can we confirm when the exam will take place.”
She further stated, “Whether the 100 marks allocated based on SSC and HSC GPA will remain as it is, or whether it will be increased or decreased, will also be decided in light of the policy.”
Alongside determining the exam date, discussions are ongoing about introducing a July quota. However, Professor Rubina Yasmin clarified that this decision entirely depends on the government. She said, “Whether the July quota will be included is entirely the government’s decision. If the government decides, we will proceed accordingly.”
Officials from the DGME have indicated that there is a plan to finalize the policy before December, as the admission policy must be published before the exam if it is scheduled for the end of the year.
Notably, the current medical admission test includes 100 marks for a written exam and an additional 100 marks based on SSC and HSC results. Indications suggest that this method may undergo changes this time.
