The historic Shrewsbury School of the United Kingdom, with a legacy spanning 473 years, has officially begun its journey in South Asia. For the first time in its history, the school has opened a fully residential campus in the region, located on 150 acres in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, India. Classes are set to commence on 18 August.

Students from across South Asia, including Bangladesh, will now have the opportunity to study at this new campus. Following the Cambridge curriculum, Shrewsbury School Bhopal will offer education from Grade 6 up to A Levels. With international-standard faculty and facilities, the school aims to prepare students for success in Cambridge International examinations (IGCSE).

The sprawling campus features state-of-the-art classrooms, specialized laboratories, a language learning centre, and studios for performing and visual arts. Students will also benefit from a wide range of co-curricular opportunities. To encourage healthy recreation, the campus is equipped with 20 indoor and outdoor sports grounds, along with training facilities for scuba diving, indoor rowing, and fencing.

In addition, the school has partnered with Trinity College London to provide students the opportunity to pursue internationally recognised diplomas in music, debate, and theatre studies.

Globally, Shrewsbury International School already operates campuses in Hong Kong, Cambodia, and Thailand. However, the Bhopal campus marks its first fully residential school outside the United Kingdom.

The new institution, Shrewsbury International School India, was formally inaugurated on 8 August in collaboration with the Jagran Welfare Society. The opening ceremony was attended by Carla Howarth, Chairperson of the Advisory Board of Governors of Shrewsbury India and Chairperson of the International Development Committee at Shrewsbury UK.

Speaking on the occasion, Carla Howarth said, “Launching our first fully residential campus outside the United Kingdom is a milestone for the entire Shrewsbury family.”

Also present were Tim Haynes, former Chair of Shrewsbury School UK and member of the Advisory Board of Governors of Shrewsbury India, Hari Mohan Gupta, Chairman of Jagran Welfare Society, and Abhishek Mohan Gupta, President of the Governing Council of Shrewsbury School India.
