Foodpanda Rider Harasses University Student with Indecent Messages After Delivery; GD Filed in Badda

A university student in Dhaka has filed a general diary (GD) at Badda Police Station after being subjected to persistent phone and WhatsApp harassment by a Foodpanda delivery rider who obtained her personal contact information during a food delivery.

The incident came to light on Saturday night, August 9, when the victim formally registered the complaint. The accused rider has been identified as 24-year-old Kawsar Hossain.

Badda Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kazi Md. Nasirul Amin confirmed the matter to The Daily Campus, stating, "A university student filed a GD at the station last night. An officer has been assigned to take necessary subsequent steps."

The investigation officer assigned to the case, Badda Police Station Sub-Inspector Abu Yusuf, told The Daily Campus that the case details have been transferred to the cybercrime unit for technical investigation.

"I have spoken with the young man. He has initially admitted his fault and asked for forgiveness," SI Yusuf stated. He added that the complainant and the respondent are scheduled to meet on August 10 to discuss a potential settlement, noting that the victim retains the right to pursue formal legal action if desired.

According to media statements from the victim, she ordered food through Foodpanda at around 10:00 PM on August 3. Later that night, she received calls and explicit messages on WhatsApp from an unknown number. Upon realizing that the caller was the delivery rider who had brought her order, she and her family felt severely vulnerable, prompting her to approach the police.

In her police complaint, the student reported that the suspect repeatedly called without identifying himself and ignored her callback attempts. On August 5, she detailed her experience in a public Facebook post, sharing screenshots of the inappropriate WhatsApp messages to warn other women and highlighting that the rider knew she was home alone at the time of delivery.

The situation escalated the following day when the student shared a subsequent update on August 6, alleging that after speaking out publicly, she began receiving online rape threats from several fake social media profiles.
