Film actor Ashraful Haque Don, known for his antagonist roles in Bangladeshi cinema, was arrested by immigration police at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Sunday afternoon.

Airport Police Station Officer-in-Charge Kamrul Hasan Talukder confirmed that immigration authorities detained Don and promptly handed him over to a team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), which is actively investigating the high-profile case.

CID Special Superintendent of Police (Media) Jasim Uddin Khan verified the arrest, stating that Don was apprehended with the assistance of immigration police and subsequently produced before the court.

The case stems from the tragic death of popular film icon Salman Shah on September 6, 1996, which has long been a subject of intense public discussion and speculation regarding the actual cause of death. Nearly 29 years after the incident, a formal murder case was filed last October at Ramna Police Station by Alamgir Kumkum on behalf of Shah's mother, Nilu Chowdhury.

The case names 11 individuals as accused, including Salman Shah's former wife Samira Haq, actor Ashraful Haque Don, Samira's mother Latifa Haq Lucy, businessman Aziz Mohammad Bhai, David, Javed, Farooq, Ruby, A. Sattar, Saju, and Rezvi Ahmed alias Farhad.

The CID is currently leading the investigation into the matter, with the deadline for submitting the formal investigation report set for August 30.
