The Department of Media Communication and Journalism (DMCJ) at North South University (NSU) organized its undergraduate orientation program for the Spring 2026 semester today. The event, held at the university’s Bashundhara campus, served as a formal welcome for the newly admitted cohort and marked a historic transition for the department itself.

The Vision: Ethics and Industry Alignment

The program was highlighted by several high-level academic leaders who outlined the future of media education in Bangladesh.

  • A Participatory Approach: Professor Md. Rizwanul Islam, Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS), urged freshers to be active participants in both academic and co-curricular initiatives. He emphasized that students are the primary representatives of the university’s core values.

  • Theory Meets Practice: Dr. Rizwan Khair, Chairperson of the Political Science and Sociology (PSS) department, noted that success in the media sector requires a "strong integration of theory and practice." He advised students to align their personal interests with evolving industry standards.

  • Ethical Architecture: Dr. S. M. Rezwan Ul Alam, Chairperson of DMCJ, emphasized the critical role of young minds in designing a "healthy and responsible media ecosystem." He stressed that ethical and informed journalism is essential for the nation's progress.

A Historic Milestone for DMCJ

The Spring 2026 semester marks a significant turning point for the Media Communication and Journalism wing at NSU.

"Launched in August 2022 as a program, DMCJ has formally commenced its journey as a fully-fledged department starting this Spring 2026 semester."

This institutional growth reflects the university’s commitment to excellence in media education, moving from its humble beginnings just over three years ago to an independent departmental status.

Fostering a Community

The orientation was not merely a formal proceeding but an interactive session designed to bridge the gap between students and faculty.

  • Academic Guidance: Faculty members provided a roadmap for the undergraduate journey, offering essential instructions on navigating the curriculum.

  • Peer Mentorship: Senior students shared their personal experiences, offering practical tips and motivation to the "Spring '26" cohort to help them adapt to the transformative years ahead.

The session concluded with an introductory exchange, solidifying the sense of community within the School of Humanities and Social Sciences.
