Education Minister Dr. A.N.M. Ehsanul Haq Milon has said that the ordinance of the newly established Dhaka Central University — formed by merging seven government colleges in the capital — will be reviewed.

The minister made the statement on Wednesday (25 February) at the Secretariat after handing over the Junior Scholarship Examination results.

In response to a question about whether hasty decisions were taken during the interim government regarding the Education Act and the seven colleges, he said: “We are bringing the ordinance under review. For this, we will also form a committee. Whether hasty decisions were made regarding the seven colleges (Dhaka Central University) or not, we will examine it. Please give us some time on these matters.”

The gazette for Dhaka Central University was published on 9 February by the Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs. Professor Dr. A.S.M. Abdul Hasib of the Nanomaterials and Ceramic Engineering Department at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) has been appointed as the first Vice-Chancellor.

The appointment gazette was issued on 15 February, signed by Assistant Secretary Md. Shah Alam Siraj of the Secondary and Higher Education Division. It states that, with the approval of the President and Chancellor, Professor Dr. A.S.M. Abdul Hasib has been appointed Vice-Chancellor under Section 11(1) of the Dhaka Central University Ordinance, 2026.
