US Suspends Immigrant Visas for Citizens of Bangladesh
The United States has temporarily suspended issuing immigrant visas to citizens of Bangladesh and certain other countries, according to a message from the US Embassy in Dhaka.
The suspension does not apply to visitor visas. This was announced today, Monday (2 March), on the official Facebook page of the US Embassy in Bangladesh.
The message states: “Effective from 21 January 2026, the US Department of State has suspended immigrant visa issuance for nationals of Bangladesh and several other countries. This decision applies to countries whose immigrants receive comparatively higher rates of government assistance at the expense of US taxpayers.”
It further clarifies that affected nationals can still submit immigrant visa applications and attend scheduled interviews. The Department of State will continue scheduling visa interviews. For more information, visit.
