Facebook Adds Long-Awaited ‘Dislike’ Button to Comments

After years of anticipation, Facebook has introduced the long-awaited 'Dislike' button, allowing users to express disagreement or disapproval on comments. The feature, initially tested as an 'Annoying' button with a downward arrow, is now available as 'Dislike' in the mobile app for select users.
The change enables reactions to comments, similar to likes, but with a negative sentiment option. However, it's limited to the app and not yet on the web version. Users should update their Facebook app to check availability.
Meta has not issued an official announcement, and the feature remains in a testing phase, expected to expand gradually. Experts believe it's a response to user demands for more nuanced expression, balancing positive engagement without amplifying negativity.
For years, users have clamored for a 'Dislike' button to voice dissent on posts and comments, arguing it would foster healthier discussions. Facebook had resisted to maintain a positive environment, but this update signals a shift toward diverse reaction options.
The rollout coincides with increased focus on user experience amid rising content moderation challenges. While praised for authenticity, some worry it could fuel toxicity if not managed well.
