Dhaka University’s New VC: Prof. Dr. A B M Obaidul Islam
Prof. Dr. A B M Obaidul Islam, from the Department of Physics at Dhaka University, has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University (DU). He was previously serving as the Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh Open University.
The announcement was made by Education Minister Dr. A N M Ehsanul Haque Milon during a briefing at the Ministry of Education this afternoon (Monday, 16 March) at around 4:00 p.m.
Prof. Obaidul Islam is currently the President of the University Teachers’ Association of Bangladesh (UTAB). He is a former General Secretary of the Dhaka University Teachers’ Association and the Convener of the pro-BNP teachers’ platform, Sadha Dal. At present, he serves as the Education Affairs Secretary of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
He has long been active in BNP politics in the Bagerhat-4 constituency and was under discussion for nomination in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election.
