Many people created Gmail IDs with quirky or unusual names during their childhood for fun. As they grew up, those names often became a source of embarrassment or discomfort, especially during job applications. Until now, there was no way to change the address, forcing users to create entirely new accounts. But that worry is now over. Google has introduced a new feature that allows you to change your Gmail ID while keeping all your old emails, photos, and important files completely intact.

According to Google’s support page, changing the ID will not cause any loss of data from the previous account. The most interesting part is that emails will continue to arrive at both your new and old addresses. So, even if someone sends a mail to your previous ID, you will still receive it. Services such as Google Drive, YouTube, and Google Maps will remain fully functional as before.

Simple Steps to Change Your Gmail ID

If you wish to change your Gmail address, first go to your Google Account at myaccount.google.com. Click on the ‘Personal Information’ option. Then, scroll down to the ‘Email’ section and click on ‘Google Account email’ to find the option to change your ID. If the ‘Edit’ option is not yet available, it means the feature has not rolled out to your account and may take a few more days.

However, a few important rules must be kept in mind: You cannot choose just any name you like. If your preferred name is already taken by another user, it will not be available. You can change your Gmail ID only once per year. In a lifetime, a user can change the ID a maximum of three times, meaning a total of four different Gmail addresses can be used. Once you take a new ID, it cannot be deleted later.
