Actor Abdullah Rana Explains Why He Declined to Mourn Kaarina Kaisar’s Death
Actor Abdullah Rana has openly declined to express condolences over the passing of popular content creator and actress Kaarina Kaisar, stating that her public political stance stood directly against his personal ideology.
Discussing the matter with the media, Rana expressed that while it might traditionally be expected of him to show grief over the news, he chose not to do so. He emphasized that an artist must inherently carry political beliefs, but argued that such ideologies should be reflected through their creative performances, activities, and productions rather than through street rallies, party meetings, or active political lobbying.
According to Rana, when an artist abandons creative expressions to exploit a political identity for factionalism or opportunism, it becomes unacceptable. He underscored that an artist belongs to the entire public and should not represent a specific political entity or engage in open partisan politics, even though they possess every right to harbor personal political beliefs.
The actor further noted that while his perspective values complete political neutrality in the public eye, it is not an absolute rule. He acknowledged that global precedents exist where individuals successfully balance active politics with acting careers, and conversely, political activists can choose to transition into the performing arts. He concluded that engaging in politics is not inherently flawed, but maintaining the sanctity of the artistic identity remains crucial.
Kaarina Kaisar passed away on May 15 while undergoing medical treatment for liver-related complications in Chennai, India. Her remains are scheduled to be flown back to Bangladesh on Sunday afternoon. Following a funeral prayer (Janaza) at the DOHS ground in Dhaka, she is expected to be buried at her maternal grandfather’s estate in Gazaria, Munshiganj.
