Iran has demanded at least $270 billion as compensation for damages caused by US and Israeli attacks during the recent conflict.

Iran’s envoy to the United Nations stated that the five Middle Eastern countries that allowed their territory to be used for strikes on Iran should pay this compensation. Tehran has also suggested imposing tolls on vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz as one way to recover the amount.

According to a preliminary assessment shared by Iranian government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani with Russian news agency RIA Novosti, the war caused around $270 billion in direct and indirect damages to Iran. This includes destruction of military installations, steel and aluminium factories, petrochemical plants, oil and gas fields, bridges, ports, railways, universities, research centres, power plants, water treatment facilities, hospitals, schools, and civilian homes.

The spokesperson noted that the compensation issue was raised during the recent talks in Pakistan and will remain on the table in any future negotiations with the US and mediators.

Despite the massive damages and the ongoing US naval blockade on Iranian ports, Iranian officials have indicated they will not make major concessions — particularly on uranium enrichment — in any upcoming talks.

A senior Iranian parliamentarian warned that extending the current two-week ceasefire would only give the US and Israel time to replenish their arsenals and prepare for new attacks. He stated that the US must either recognise Iran’s rights, including control over the Strait of Hormuz, or face renewed war.
