Twin Triumph: Five Pairs of Sisters Secure Medical College Admission This Year
An extraordinary achievement has marked this year's medical admission test, with five pairs of twin sisters securing places at government medical colleges across the country for the 2025-26 academic session. Hailing from diverse backgrounds in Panchagarh, Mymensingh, Dinajpur and Rangpur, these students have demonstrated that dedication and academic excellence transcend circumstances.
Puja and Poli from Panchagarh
The village of Binoypur in Dandpal union of Debiganj upazila in Panchagarh is abuzz with celebration. Twin daughters of farmer Bhupendra Nath Roy and Shantana Rani Mohanta, a teacher at Binoypur Government Primary School, Puja Rani Roy and Poli Rani Roy, have secured admission to medical colleges. Puja will study at Kushtia Medical College while Poli secured a place at Nilphamari Medical College.
Born on 15 July 2006, the sisters have consistently excelled academically. Both won scholarships in the 2017 Primary Education Completion Examination from Binoypur Government Primary School. In 2023, they passed SSC from Binoypur High School with golden GPA and received scholarships again, with Poli receiving recognition as the best student at the upazila level.
After enrolling at Thakurgaon Government College, both achieved golden GPA in the 2025 HSC examination and received Talent Pool scholarships. They completed coaching at Retina Coaching Centre in Rangpur before appearing for the medical admission test.
Puja aspires to become a cardiologist while Poli wants to be a gynaecologist and reduce maternal mortality rates. Their elder sister Jukti Rani Roy is currently in her third year studying environmental science at Jashore University of Science and Technology.
"Who can be happier than a mother at my daughters' success! However, when they become specialist doctors and serve people, I will truly feel blessed," said their mother Shantana Rani Mohanta.
Miha and Liha from Mymensingh
Fabiha Zaman Miha and Lamisa Zaman Liha have secured impressive national rankings in the medical admission test. Miha scored 81.75 marks, ranking 873rd nationally, and will study at Mymensingh Medical College. Liha scored 75 marks, ranking 4,675th nationally, and secured admission to Netrokona Medical College.
The sisters reside at Boundary Road in Mymensingh, with their ancestral home in Bhati Sabhar village of Nandail upazila. Their father is Dr M Kamruzzaman Manik, associate professor of the Orthopaedic Surgery Department at Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital. Their mother is Taslima Begum Lovely, assistant professor and head of the Chemistry Department at Nasirabad College.
Miha and Liha completed their education at Mymensingh International School and Cantonment Public School and College. In the 2023 SSC examination, Miha scored 1,247 marks and Liha scored 1,241 marks. In HSC-2025, Miha scored 1,192 marks and Liha scored 1,185 marks. They received scholarships in both examinations.
"This success belongs not only to their family but to all of Nandail. They will serve the country and people as humane physicians in the future," said their father Dr M Kamruzzaman Manik.
Lt Colonel Abu Hayat Md Reashad Morshed, principal of Cantonment Public School and College Momensingh, said their success proves that nothing is impossible with perseverance, dedication, and proper guidance.
Makhnun and Musfika from Dinajpur
Dinajpur twins Makhnun Akter and Musfika Naznin have also achieved success this year. Makhnun secured admission to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College, while Musfika will study at Mymensingh Medical College.
Born on 3 March 2007, the sisters are daughters of Moshiur Rahman, an office assistant at Muraripara Government High School, and Nazmun Nahar. They received primary education from Rampur Government Primary School and achieved GPA-5 in both SSC from Setabganj Government Pilot Model High School and HSC from Dinajpur Government College.
"Both of us sisters secured admission to medical colleges together, which makes us very happy. I want to become a good doctor in the future and serve people," said Musfika Naznin.
Their father Moshiur Rahman said, "I have three daughters, no son. I also wished for my daughters to become doctors. Allah the Almighty has accepted that wish. I pray that they can become good doctors and serve the country and people."
Coming from an ordinary family, this achievement has become an exemplary example of girls' educational advancement in rural society.
Nazah and Nubah from Rangpur
Hafsa Ismat Nazah and Hajja Ismat Nubah from Rangpur have set another inspiring example. Nazah secured a place at Kushtia Medical College while Nubah will study at Nilphamari Medical College.
The sisters were born into the Mondal family of Nishchintapur village in Jaigirhat, Mithapukur upazila of Rangpur district. Their father is Motahar Mondal and mother Shahanaj Begum. Both passed SSC from Mithapukur Model Government School and HSC from Rangpur Government College with GPA-5.
From childhood, both demonstrated merit in various examinations, consistently leaving their mark in competitive tests. Local residents noted that their success is a source of pride for the entire Mithapukur and Rangpur region.
"My two daughters have been meritorious since childhood. Their dream was to become doctors and serve people. Allah has given them the opportunity to fulfil that dream. I ask everyone to pray for them," said their father Motahar Mondal.
Their grandfather, Shahjahan Ali Mondal, a retired teacher, said, "Our family wished for someone to become a physician. My two granddaughters have fulfilled that expectation. Everyone in our family, including me, is happy."
Professor Md Firozur Rahman, vice-principal of Rangpur Government College, said the twins' success continues the institution's tradition of producing medical college admissions and has made them proud.
Makhnun and Musfiqa from Dinajpur
Another set of Dinajpur twins, Makhnun Akter and Musfiqa Naznin, have also made their mark this year. Makhnun secured admission to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College, while Musfiqa will study at Mymensingh Medical College.
Born on 3 March 2007 to Moshiur Rahman and Nazmun Nahar, the twin sisters received primary education from Rampur Government Primary School. They went on to achieve GPA-5 in both their SSC examination from Setabganj Government Pilot Model High School and HSC examination from Dinajpur Government College.
Their father Moshiur Rahman works as an office assistant at Muraripara Government High School. Despite modest means, the family prioritised their daughters' education.
"Both of us sisters secured admission to medical colleges together, which makes us very happy. I want to become a good doctor in the future and serve people," said Musfiqa Naznin.
Makhnun Akter noted that her childhood dream of becoming a doctor would not have been possible without parental support. "My elder sister was always by our side, and my father also wished for us to become doctors and serve the people of the country," she said.
Their father expressed his joy, saying, "I have three daughters, no son. I also wished for my daughters to become doctors. Allah the Almighty has accepted that wish. I pray that they can become good doctors and serve the country and people."
The success of these five sets of twins (ten meritorious students in total) represents not just individual achievements but a celebration of family support, educational dedication, and equal opportunities across Bangladesh's diverse regions.
