Nearly 30,000 MPO-enlisted private educational institutions across the country remained closed for consecutive eight days due to teachers’ agitation demanding hike in house rent allowance among three points. As a result of the movement, students faced academic loss ahead of annual examinations. To compensate this loss of students, teachers have decided to take classes on the next four Saturdays, which are weekly holidays. Following the announcement, today on the first Saturday, MPO-enlisted teachers across the country have voluntarily attended classes and started teaching. On this day, students and officials-employees also showed active presence to assist in educational activities.

Senior teacher of Karamullah High School in Noakhali Md Saleh Uddin told The Daily Campus, “All teachers of our school are spontaneously taking classes today, because compensating the academic loss faced by students due to long closure and stalemate is now our main responsibility. We do “not want any student to lag behind or perform poorly in exams. That is why no one is taking rest; teachers are conducting classes continuously from morning to afternoon. Students’ attendance is also very good today. They are attending classes with enthusiasm, because everyone wants to regain momentum in studies.” He further said, “We have contacted neighbouring schools. Talking to their teachers and administration, we learnt that they are also taking classes with full vigour in the same way.”

Teacher of Nimtala Secondary School in Kushtia Md Asad told The Daily Campus, “We observed work abstention at the call of Principal Delawar Hossain Azizi Sir, member-secretary of MPO-enlisted Education Nationalisation Aspirant Alliance. However, currently following his directive, we are running school activities even on holidays i.e. Saturdays. Through this, we want to ensure no harm to students’ studies and maintain regular educational activities.”

Teachers of Nurpur Rahmaniya Darussunnah Dakhil Madrasa said, “Respecting the directive of Principal Delawar Hossain Azizi Sir, we have resumed madrasa activities. As a result, students can participate regularly in teaching and studies. Our goal is to ensure no student faces educational loss and educational activities remain continuous.” Earlier, after accepting teachers’ demands, member-secretary of MPO-enlisted Education Nationalization Aspirant Alliance Principal Delwar Hossain Azizi announced that teachers will take classes on Saturdays to compensate students’ loss.

He said, “On Saturday (25 October), MPO-enlisted teachers-employees will come to educational institutions and classes for students will run. I hope everyone will spontaneously participate in classes responding to our call. The common people of the country stood by us during our movement. Now it is our responsibility to stand by their children. Ensuring no harm to students’ educational life is now our main goal.” Principal Delwar Hossain Azizi further said, “Some have expressed concern over the decision to run classes on Saturday. This is not the government’s decision, it is a step taken from our own conscience. We will take classes skipping holidays on four Saturdays before annual examinations. Today’s Saturday class does not mean permanently running educational institutions on Saturdays in future. It is temporary, a step taken to compensate students’ loss.”
