Exam Centre Blunder Fails 48 SSC Students, Many Earn GPA-5 After Fix

A grave error by the Pulerhat Secondary School examination centre in Jashore led to 48 science stream students from Bhaturia High School and College being declared failed in the 2025 SSC examinations due to missing chemistry practical marks. The issue, rectified three days after the results were announced on 10 July, saw many students achieving GPA-5 in the corrected results released on 13 July.
Professor Dr. Abdul Matin, Controller of Examinations at Jashore Education Board, told The Daily Campus, “The centre failed to submit the chemistry practical marks, which are processed online. There was confusion among centre officials about whether the marks were sent. As a result, the initial results for these 48 students were incomplete, leading to their failure in chemistry.” He confirmed that all affected students passed in the revised results.
Of the 329 students from six schools who appeared for the SSC exams at the Pulerhat centre, 48 from the science stream were initially marked as failed. Analysis by teachers revealed that all had failed in chemistry. The centre’s secretary, Md. Khanjahan Ali, subsequently wrote to the Jashore Education Board’s examination controller, prompting the correction.
Miaraj Islam, one of the affected students, shared his ordeal: “On Thursday, my results showed GPA-5 in eight subjects, an A in one, and a failure in chemistry. The past few days were sleepless for my family. Today’s corrected results gave me a GPA-5, and everyone at home is overjoyed.”
The incident has raised concerns about the accuracy of result processing, with calls for stricter oversight to prevent such errors in the future.
