Major Reforms in Exams and Evaluation System Announced in Three Phases
Education Minister Dr. A.N.M. Ehsanul Haq Milan has indicated significant changes to the examination and assessment system in Bangladesh. He stated that the Ministry of Education will announce a detailed roadmap after Eid-ul-Fitr. The announcement came during a press conference at the ministry's conference room on Thursday (19 February) at around 1:00 pm, with State Minister Bobby Hajjaj present.
In his written speech, State Minister Bobby Hajjaj outlined a three-phase reform timeline. The first phase, from now until Eid-ul-Fitr, will focus on a diagnostic review of budget and project implementation, root-cause analysis of why 53% of development budget funds are returned, and pilot designs for distributing tablets to teachers, multimedia classrooms, and language education.
The second phase will begin after Eid-ul-Fitr. Bobby Hajjaj said the ministry will announce a national education roadmap with the approval of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. This roadmap will be ministry-wise, division-wise, and include measurable indicators.
The third phase will span 12 to 36 months (one to three years). During this period, major technical reforms will be introduced in examinations and evaluation. Bridging will be done between technical, general, and madrasa education. Additionally, research and innovation grants in universities will be scaled up.
