Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has formally inaugurated the monthly honorarium programme for imams, muezzins, khadims, priests, and other religious leaders from mosques, temples, monasteries, and churches. The event took place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday (14 March) at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka.

Sarjis Alam, Chief Organizer (Northern Region) of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP), expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister and the government for this initiative. In a Facebook post on Saturday afternoon, he wrote: “Today, on behalf of the current government, the Prime Minister inaugurated the monthly honorarium programme for mosque imams, muezzins, khadims, priests, and other religious leaders. I thank the government for taking this step.”

During the inauguration, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman said: “Today’s exceptional gathering brings together people whom society respects voluntarily and from whom people seek good advice in difficult times of life.”

He highlighted that the programme includes not only Islamic imams, khatibs, and muezzins but also Hindu priests, Buddhist monks and deputy abbots, and Christian clergy. He added that the government is implementing various schemes to support economically disadvantaged sections of society.

The Prime Minister further stated: “In line with the commitments made before the national election, initiatives are being taken to reduce economic inequality through financial assistance and employment generation.”
